The walls of the new Lungni Health Centre are standing. In September, a Nevalak team made the long journey north to see the building for themselves, check the work against the drawings, and plan the next stage with the people who will use it.
On Friday 18 September, King James Kelly-Cudjoe, our Project Manager and Country Representative, set off from Accra with two additional contractors, a builder and an electrician, while Samuel Ohene travelled from Kumasi. Both journeys were long and difficult, and the team reached Kpandai just before 9:00 p.m.
On Saturday morning they drove on to Lungni. At the site they were joined by Samuel Njomaba, our Director in Ghana, who is based in Lungni, by Mr. Peter Owusu, the contractor on the ground, and by the current in-charge of the existing Lungni Health Centre. Together they toured the new building room by room.
From Accra to Lungni and back: the September 2026 site visit in under a minute.
Progress is clear. The block walls are up across the building, and the columns and scaffolding for the front of the facility are in place. Walking through the rooms also showed where the design needs to change before the next phase begins.

The visiting contractors took measurements to check the building against the drawings, and Samuel Ohene carried out his own. Some discrepancies were noted, and these will be resolved in the next round of planning.

As the rain began, the team stopped at the existing health centre to compare what it offers with the new design. This showed that some departments not included in the new building can remain in the old facility, which will be renovated so that both buildings together give Lungni stronger health services.
"While progress is evident, the adjustments identified are critical to ensuring the facility meets its intended purpose."

The visit confirmed that the scope of work is broader than first planned. The team agreed on four next steps:
We will share the estimate and the next phase of work as soon as it is ready. Thank you to everyone who made the journey, and to the people of Lungni for welcoming us.
